Justin Bieber tweet crashes News Talk Radio website

A message from pop star Justin Bieber to his followers on the social network Twitter caused the web servers that host News Talk Radio’s online news service to crash on Friday afternoon.

At around 1:00pm, Bieber linked his followers to a news story about a food drive in Saskatoon held by our affiliated station C95. In the tweet, Bieber told his followers, “greatest fans in the world! helping make a difference in others lives!! so proud!” The Saskatoon food drive raised more than 21-thousand cans of soup for the Saskatoon Food Bank.

“Bieber has 5.2 million followers,” says Rawlco Interactive web developer Sadie Swanson. “After that, it’s getting retweeted at a rate of about ten per minute.”

Swanson says the increased traffic raised eyebrows in the web development department. “We thought we were getting attacked by someone. We’ve never seen anything like this before.”
