Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez step out as a couple - Mirror.co.uk

<div id="article-body" readability="86"> <p>HEAR that loud clang? It's the sound of teenage hearts breaking all over the world – Justin Bieber is officially OFF the market.</p> <p>The Baby singer has finally admitted that he and Disney starlet Selena Gomez, 18, are indeed an item.</p> <p>After months of secret dates, during which they have denied any romance, the Canadian foetus stepped out with Selena at the Vanity Fair party following Sunday's Oscars.</p> <p>And just in case we hadn't got the message, it was giggles, love notes and knee squeezes all round for the teenage sweethearts at the glitzy bash at LA's Sunset Tower. Diddums.</p> <p>A source tells me: "Justin has been wanting to go public with Selena for months, but it wasn't until now that they finally felt the time was right.</p> <p>"Selena was delighted when Justin asked her to go as his date a few weeks ago. They spent the whole night wrapped up in each other, with Bieber introducing her to his famous pals as his 'hot girlfriend'. They giggled in the corner, writing secret messages to each other on their mobiles.</p> <p>"Selena didn't let go of his hand all night. Then Justin pulled her into a photobooth where they took some snaps.</p> <div class="article" readability="31"> <div class="advert" readability="7"> <p>Advertisement - article continues below » </p> </div> </div> <p>"They're clearly smitten." Aah!</p> <p>The pair even wore his 'n' hers Dolce &amp; Gabbana outfits.</p> <p>Justin, who turns 17 today, wore a shiny black suit with a red handkerchief sticking out his pocket that matched Selena's prom-style dress.</p> <p>Bizarrely, Mick Jagger took young Justin under his wrinkly wing and chaperoned him around the bash – when he could surgically remove the lad from Selena's face, that is.</p> <p>An onlooker says: "He wanted to show Justin how to make the best of a showbiz bash. But Justin only had eyes for his missus." Jagger ain't the only geriatric on hand to help out Justin. His nan has promised to bake him his favourite cherry cheesecake for his birthday – when Justin is introducing Selena to his family.</p> <p>Sadly the pair are about to be parted. Justin starts his tour this week, kicking off in Birmingham on Friday.</p> <p>How will they cope? Life's so unfair!</p> </div>

JUSTIN BIEBER SURPRISES ELLEN WITH A LOCK OF HIS HAIR ♥

Justin Bieber shows up unexpectedly at The Ellen DeGeneres Show, joking that his new haircut was inspired by Ellen DeGeneres herself. Then, he graciously gives a lock of his famous strands to Ellen to auction off for charity. What a guy.

JUSTIN BIEBER ON THE TALK ♥

JUSTIN BIEBER WAX STATUES: WHAT HAIRSTYLE WILL THEY HAVE? ♥

Madame Tussauds figures will debut in March.

This March, Justin Bieber’s wax likeness will be hitting three Madame Tussauds wax museums. Outposts in London, New York and Amsterdam will all house statues of the teen pop sensation. And, since Bieber decided to have his trademark locks lopped off last weekend, fans may be wondering what kind of hairstyle the statues will feature. Well, The Hollywood Reporterrevealed that the likenesses will in fact sport Bieber’s signature swoop.

“We have been absolutely inundated with requests from young fans from around the world to see him,” Liz Edwards, head of PR at Madame Tussauds, explained. “We’re sure his fans will be just as delighted as we are that Justin will be joining the A-list.”

THR further reported that Bieber will be the headlining act at the museum’s music zone, an interactive area that also features stars like Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake. It’s reported that Bieber sat for his statue late last year.

“We’re capturing a moment in time,” Bret Pidgeon, general manager of Madame Tussauds New York, told E! News about the statue. “Capturing what he looks like right now.”

Pidgeon also hinted about the hair that would appear on the statue. “We’re going to wait to see how the new haircut takes with the fans … It’ll be part of the excitement for the final launch day,” he added, noting that Bieber will be on hand at one of the unveilings.

Reps for the museum never responded to MTV News’ request for further information by press time.

“I’m honored to be getting my own wax figures,” Bieber said in a press statement. “To be immortalized in wax alongside some of my idols — Michael Jackson, Prince, Beyonce and my mentor, Usher — is incredibly exciting and very cool.”

A long line of other music stars also have had their likenesses cast in wax for display at Madame Tussauds locations. In the past few years, teen idols like the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and even Lady Gaga have all received the honor from the famed institution.

JUSTIN BIEBER SWAPS SPOTS WITH LADY GAGA ATOP SOCIAL 50 CHART ♥ • POSTED BY ANNALISA WITH 0 RESP

Lady Gaga may retain the throne on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with “Born This Way,” but she slips from the top slot on the Social 50 tally, down to No. 2. Who’s she replaced by? Why, the act with the No. 1 album in the country — Justin Bieber.

Justin Bieber Scores Second No. 1 Album with ‘Never Say Never’ Remixes

The Biebs jumps 3-1 in the wake of social buzz generated by his Grammy Awards performance on Feb. 13, the continuing success of his documentary film “Never Say Never” and its remix album of the same name. The latter opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week with 165,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world’s leading social networking sites — YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike — using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Grows Atop Grammy-Fueled Hot 100

Nicki Minaj stirs up excitement on the chart too, as she rallies 15-4 — though Lil Kim (who has been keeping herself in the news lately thanks to her feud with Minaj) is no where to be found on the list. The Black Eyed Peasclimb back up the list 19-8 while Ludacris also jumps back into the top 10, moving 21-9.

Rihanna falls 2-3, Eminem, Akon and Katy Perry holds at Nos. 5, 6 and 7, respectively. Rounding out the top 10 is Linkin Park, who falls one slot to No. 10.

Drake re-enters at No. 20 following his Grammy performance with Rihanna, while Radiohead debuts right behind him at No. 21. Certainly the latter’s entry is enabled by the chatter garnered by the release of its new album “The King Of Limbs,” which went on sale Feb. 18. The act saw a 40% week-over-week gain in Facebook fans, a 555% jump in Twitter followers and a 657% leap in YouTube channel views. (“King” does not appear on Billboard’s charts this week, as its sales were not reported to Nielsen SoundScan.)

Also returning to the list this week is Bruno Mars at No. 46, who is closely trailed by the debuting British singer Jessie J, bowing at No. 47. She’s currently enjoying the success of her first U.S. hit single, “Price Tag” (featuring B.o.B) which climbs one rung to No. 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

JUSTIN BIEBER REVEALS BIRTHDAY PLANS, TALKS HAIRCUT ♥

‘I’m just going to relax,’ singer says of his plans.

Justin Bieber turns 17 on March 1, and he’s revealing what his plans are for the big day.

“I only have, like, four days, so I’m just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] — so just going to mentally prepare and just relax,” Justin told “Entertainment Tonight.” “No birthday bash. … Hopefully my grandparents will be out here and I’ll be able to spend time, a little bit, with them. My grandma makes the best cheesecake — cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday.”

Of course, Bieber’s birthday isn’t the only thing making headlines these days. His new haircut has also been causing quite the hoopla, but Bieber seems to be brushing it off. “I just wanted to [cut my hair], that’s all. Not really a big reason; I just woke up and said, ‘I don’t want this anymore,’ so I just cut it,” he said. “It’s not really about that. You know, the fans really liked it, but they’ll like me no matter what, because I think it’s about the music. I’m really excited to see what the fans overseas think and take it day by day.”

Bieber will re-release his 3-D flick “Never Say Never” this weekend. “It’s 40 minutes of extra footage, so it’s basically like a new movie,” he says. “It’s real exciting, because it shows me and my friends more and it shows a different part of the concert, so it’s going to be great. Hopefully all the fans will go back and watch it.”

Next week, in addition to his birthday, Bieber will also kick off his European tour. “I’m excited to see what [Willow Smith] brings to the table,” he said. “We start on March 4, so she’s really excited, and she told me that she can’t wait — and she’s adorable — so I can’t wait.

“I have such great people around me and such good family,” he added. “I just want to be a good role model to people, and to be able to just make good music. … I’m going to make mistakes, but it’s about learning from them and becoming better. … My movie shows that anything is possible and dreams do come true. … Remember to always stay humble and always be gracious and anything can happen.”

How Much is Justin Bieber's Allowance?

Justin Bieber is given an allowance every month. The 16-year-old singing sensation is worth an estimated $100 million but has a cap placed on his spending and is forced to go without if he reaches the top of his budget too soon.

Justin Bieber Gets An Allowance.

He admitted: "My money is being invested. I only have a credit card, which allows me to spend a certain amount of money every month. If I reach the limit after the first week, I won't be able to buy any more stuff until the month is over. My mom is in control of that."

Despite the tight control placed on his finances, Justin insists he doesn't mind because he is more interested in his career than the financial rewards it brings.

He told Switzerland's Blick newspaper: "It's not that money wouldn't mean anything at all to me. But the main thing is to do what my passion is. And that's music. It's nice to get paid for that, though. Performing feels natural to me, just like walking."

As well as controlling his finances, the 'Baby' singer's mother, Patti Mallette, also keeps a close eye on the fan mail the young star receives.

Asked about having underwear thrown at him on stage, he said: "My Mom doesn't like it when that happens. Sometimes they have phone numbers written on them. I don't know what happens to them."

News: Johnny Depp To Duet With Justin Bieber?

JOHNNY Depp could be teaming up with Justin Bieber — if the actor’s daughter gets her way!

Johnny has become a Bieber fan through his 11-year-old little girl Lily-Rose who now wants her famous dad to get to know her idol better.

“I think she’d like me to do a duet with him,” says Johnny. “I’ve told her I did all my singing in Sweeney Todd. I don’t think I could match Justin. He’s far too talented for me.”

Depp recently admitted his kids don’t consider him to be cool.

“They are not bothered at all,” he said.

“They get excited if Bob Downey (Robert Downey Jnr) comes to the house but they don’t get excited about me in any way whatsoever.”

News: Justin Bieber Beats Out Miley Cyrus

Justin Bieber has bested Hannah Montana legend Miley Cyrus as the ultimate teen star of the era. Or, even perhaps of all time. It seems the Biebs's blockbuster 3D documentary film Never Say Never is now beating out Miley Cyrus's Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour film.

According to Justin Bieber Zone, Never Say Never earned a reported $13.6 million in its second week compared to the $10.3 million made by Miley Cyrus’s movie, which was released three years ago.

In only two weeks, Bieber’s Never Say Never earned $51 million in the US, alone. In addition, the director's cut of Justin's film will be released today, which means that all true beliebers will have to return to the theaters this weekend to see the new scenes. Wow.

It seems that the teen dream's staggering popularity has become a self-perpetuating phenomenon.

Congrats, Justin. Keep up the good work. As for all you, true beliebers, get yourselves to the theater.

News: Justin Bieber Told Selena "I Love You" First!

Justin Bieber is allegedly so smitten with his suspected girlfriend Selena Gomez, that he told her he loved her first!

According to Celebritymania, the Never Say Never star confessed those three little words to Selena and the cute couple are now regularly telling each other "I Love You."

A source revealed to celebrity blogger, Zack Taylor: "They are already saying 'I love you' to each other. Funny enough, Justin was the first one to say those three words,"

Despite not confirming they are in a relationship, reports yesterday stated that JB brought the contents of an entire flower shop and ordered staff to fill Selena's home with bouquets! How sweet…

However, we are wondering how the pint-sized popstar managed to pay for all those posies, after the Biebster admitted that his mum doesn't allow him to spend big on his credit card.

Speaking to The Sun, Justin claimed that his mum, Pattie Mallette, tells him "where to go" if he asks for extra cash on top of his pocket money.

The 16-year old confessed: "I only have a credit card which allows me to spend a certain amount of money every month."

He continued: "If I reach the limit after the first week, I can't buy any more stuff until the month is over. My mom is in control of that."

Justin also revealed that Mallette hates fans throwing their underwear at him, adding: "My mom doesn't like it when that happens. Sometimes they have phone numbers written on them. I don't know what happens to them."

Meanwhile in other JB news, his hit movie Never Say Never is to be re-released in the US and Canada and will include 40 minutes of never before seen footage.

Bieber's film director, Jon M.Chu claimed in a video posted on Twitter: "I realised I had an embarrassment of riches when I was in the cutting room."

"Justin's dedication to his fan base is unwavering and I was inspired as a filmmaker to attempt to provide them a unique experience that showed even more of his world."

The One Time hitmaker also confirmed the news on Twitter, posting: "It is a different version from what is in theatres now....u can decide which one is better! @jonmchu u are a wild dude."

Music exec slams Grammys for snubbing Justin Bieber, Eminem - Entertainment Weekly

<div id=""><p>An Open Letter to Neil Portnow, NARAS and the Grammy Awards</p> <p>Over the course of my 20-year history as an executive in the music business and as the owner of a firm that specializes in in-culture advertising, I have come to the conclusion that the Grammy Awards have clearly lost touch with contemporary popular culture. My being a music fan has left me with an even greater and deeper sense of dismay — so much so that I feel compelled to write this letter. Where I think that the Grammys fail stems from two key sources: (1) over-zealousness to produce a popular show that is at odds with its own system of voting and (2) fundamental disrespect of cultural shifts as being viable and artistic.</p> <p>As an institution that celebrates artistic works of musicians, singers, songwriters, producers and technical specialists, we have come to expect that the Grammys upholds all of the values that reflect the very best in music that is born from our culture. Unfortunately, the awards show has become a series of hypocrisies and contradictions, leaving me to question why any contemporary popular artist would even participate. How is it possible that in 2001 The Marshall Mathers LP — an album by Eminem that ushered in the Bob Dylan of our time — was beaten out by Steely Dan (no disrespect) for Album Of The Year? While we cannot solely utilize album sales as the barometer, this was certainly not the case. Not only is Eminem the best-selling artist of the last decade, but The Marshall Mathers LP was a critical and commercial success that sold over 10 million albums in the United States (19 million worldwide), while Steely Dan sold less than 10% of that amount and came and went as quietly as a church mouse. Or consider even that in 2008 at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, after going into the night as the most-nominated artist, Kanye West's Graduation was beaten out for Album Of The Year by Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters. (This was the first time in 43 years that a jazz album won this category.) While there is no doubt in my mind of the artistic talents of Steely Dan or Herbie Hancock, we must acknowledge the massive cultural impact of Eminem and Kanye West and how their music is shaping, influencing and defining the voice of a generation. It is this same cultural impact that acknowledged the commercial and critical success of Michael Jackson's Thriller in 1984.</p> <p>Just so that I'm not showing partiality to hip-hop artists (although it would be an entirely different letter as to how hip-hop music has been totally diminished as an art form by this organization), how is it that Justin Bieber, an artist that defines what it means to be a modern artist, did not win Best New Artist? Again, his cultural impact and success are even more quantifiable if you factor in his YouTube and Vevo viewership — the fact that he was a talent born entirely of the digital age whose story was crafted in the most humble method of being "discovered" purely for his singing ability (and it should be noted that Justin Bieber plays piano and guitar, as evidenced on his early viral videos).</p> <p>So while these very artists that the public acknowledges as being worthy of their money and fandom are snubbed year after year at the Grammys, the awards show has absolutely no qualms in inviting these same artists to perform. At first I thought that you were not paying attention to the fact that the mental complexion of the world is becoming tanned, that multiculturalism and poly-ethnicity are driving new meaning as to what is culturally relevant. Interesting that the Grammys understands cultural relevance when it comes to using Eminem's, Kanye West's or Justin Bieber's name in the billing to ensure viewership and to deliver the all-too-important ratings for its advertisers.</p> <p>What truly inspired the writing of this letter was that this most recent show fed my suspicions. As the show was coming to a close and just prior to presenting the award for Album Of The Year, the band Arcade Fire performed "Month of May" — only to… surprise… win the category and, in a moment of sheer coincidence, happened to be prepared to perform "Ready to Start."</p> <p>Does the Grammys intentionally use artists for their celebrity, popularity and cultural appeal when they already know the winners and then program a show against this expectation? Meanwhile the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences hides behind the "peer" voting system to escape culpability for not even rethinking its approach.</p> <p>And I imagine that next year there will be another televised super-close-up of an astonished front-runner as they come to the realization before a national audience… that he or she was used.</p> <p>You are being called to task at this very moment, NARAS.</p> <p>And to all of the artists that attend the Grammys: Stop accepting the invitation to be the upset of the year and demand that this body upholds its mission for advocacy and support of artistry as culture evolves.</p> <p>Demand that they change this system and truly reflect and truly acknowledge your art.</p> <p>Steve Stoute</p></div>

Justin Bieber – the girls, the Google hits... and THAT hairstyle - Mirror.co.uk

<div id="article-body" readability="155.591138531"> <p>Linked to a string of beauties and with the film of his life so far breaking box office records, Justin Bieber is the most Googled name on the planet.</p> <p>Not bad for a boy whose voice hasn't fully broken. But the real secret of his success is his appeal to the opposite sex. Thousands of hysterical girls camped outside the O2 last week as he arrived at the Brits to pick up his award for International Breakthrough Artist.</p> <p>Inside, glamorous older stars such as Cheryl Cole, Jessie J and Rihanna queued up to steal a kiss from the teen sensation.</p> <p>But while millions around the globe adore him, one woman has captured his heart – Disney star Selena Gomez, who at 18 is two years his senior.</p> <p>And although things are serious between them, she should not take anything for granted – Justin may be only 16 but he already has a roving eye.</p> <p>Friends have warned: "Justin's cute and he knows it. He could have any woman he chooses and is lapping up the attention. Selena better watch out."</p> <p>Even the man himself admits: "I'm here just having fun and not taking myself too seriously. I like all girls. I like a girl with a nice smile and who's funny.</p> <p>"As far as looks, my taste is dark hair. But I don't limit myself. I like girls with blonde hair too. I like everything."</p> <p>As Justin goes from one awards ceremony to another, pretty brunette Selena is no doubt watching with an anxious eye. Their romance – the worst-kept secret in showbiz – was established beyond doubt when they were spotted strolling hand in hand in Santa Monica then enjoying an intimate break in St Lucia last month.</p> <p>Justin, wearing just a pair of shorts, was snapped tenderly kissing a bikini-clad Selena and patting her on the bottom.</p> <p>During a recent interview, the singer opened his laptop to reveal his screensaver – a romantic sunset shot of them together. And last week for Valentine's he was spotted in lingerie store Victoria's Secret, where he spent thousands of pounds.Justin has been reluctant to confirm the romance, saying: "I don't think it's really anyone's business what my private life is. Some things you just have to keep to yourself." But he did reveal: "I don't think you should have sex with anyone unless you love them."</p> <p>Selena also denied that they were dating.</p> <div class="article" readability="31"> <div class="advert" readability="7"> <p>Advertisement - article continues below » </p> </div> </div> <p>"Oh my gosh. Justin is one of my best friends," she claimed. "That's all it is. All innocent."</p> <p>Justin did, though, give away a few clues as to what is really going on: "There are so many girls who would just do anything for me because of my status. Someone told me it's great to be with somebody who has just as much to lose as you do. It's probably a good idea if I go out with someone famous."</p> <p>It looks like Selena is that special person. A huge star in her own right, she also has the squeaky-clean Disney brand to support. But while she was a supporter of the True Love Waits chastity campaign, it's perhaps significant that she no longer wears her purity ring – a symbol of a no-sex-before-marriage pledge.</p> <p>One reason to keep the relationship under wraps is the wrath of Justin's teenage fans – the Beliebers.</p> <p>"I hate u, i want you to die," tweeted one young fan to Selena on finding out about the romance. Another added: "I'll kill you I swear on GOD!!!!", "If you are the Girlfriend of Justin I will Kill you I HATE YOU :@ !!!" and the vile slur: "Stay away from Justin, I'll kill you!"</p> <p>Justin's manager Scooter Braun is also keen that his young star is seen as single, saying: "This kid travels a lot and I always told him, 'You shouldn't be in a relationship unless you can give someone everything'."</p> <p>But while Justin is smitten with Selena and is said to be buying a multi-million-pound apartment in LA so he can be near her, for such a young man he already has quite a track record as a heart-breaker. The first girl linked to him was fellow singer Jacqueline Rae Pyles, who has since been dumped by his record label. Then there was first love Jasmine Villegas, also a singer, who was cast aside to make way for Gomez. He is also close to reality star Kim Kardashian, who at 30 is 14 years his senior. After one meeting, Justin posted a picture on Twitter and wrote: "Look it's my girlfriend Kim Kardashian."</p> <p>During a magazine photo shoot on a Bahamas beach, Kim tweeted: "I messed up Justin Bieber's hair."</p> <p>Ah, the hair... that tousled moptop is becoming almost as famous as the man himself. The style, known simply as The Bieber, is side-sweeping America, swiftly becoming the must-have style for teenage boys. Salons charge up to £80 for the helmet-like cut with long, side-brushed fringe. Some boys are too embarrassed to ask for it by name, so they describe the combed-over do with no mention of Justin.</p> <p>No doubt boys copying the style are hoping it will give them some of the star's legendary appeal to girls – which is growing as quickly as his sales figures.</p> <p>And as his film Never Say Never smashes all box office records and his fortune gets ever vaster, it seems unlikely Justin will be able to stay a one-woman boy for long.</p> <p><em>scoops@sundaymirror.co.uk</em></p> <p class="append-html"> Buy Cheap tickets for the upcoming <b>X Factor Live 2011 Tour</b>&#13; , prices start at £27 and are available now.. </p> </div>

JUSTIN BIEBER: THE WORLD'S HARDEST WORKING HEART-THROB - Express.co.uk

<p>After a near-riot at a New Zealand airport, an overwhelmed New York shopping mall and girls trampled before a concert in Sydney it should be no surprise that thousands of screaming fans camped out in London this week before the European premiere of Justin Bieber's 3-D movie Never Say Never.</p><p>He's only 16 but the small-town Canadian teenager, who is in this country to promote the film, has conquered pop culture, from the music charts to a bestselling book, TV and film, and is dominating the internet – which has dealt with more than one billion requests for information on him. True "Beliebers", as his fans have become known, swoon over his adorable fresh-faced innocence, honeyed voice and mop of chestnut hair.</p><p>Millions of parents, weary of buying their offspring a plethora of magazines, action figures, fragrances and anything else connected to the Bieber phenomenon, may roll their eyes in bewilderment at the schoolboy who seems to have struck it rich virtually overnight, as if by luck.<br /></p><p> <br />At first glance it appears that his success rested on a few home-made videos of him singing posted on the internet being spotted before he was taken on by pop icon Usher, who promoted and packaged him. A typical example of the triumph of marketing over musical talent, in other words. Only it's not true.</p><p>"Justin Bieber is one of the hardest working stars – of any age – in music today," says Los Angeles record producer John Harris. "His success is the result of years of dedication, unquestioned talent and plain old hard work. He's been lucky but he's earned his success."</p><p>Jon Chu, who directed Bieber's new movie which opens here this weekend, agrees: "His story is a fairytale but it didn't just happen overnight. He worked his butt off."<br /></p><div readability="154"><p class="storycopy"> <br />Bieber's manager Scooter Braun says: "He's gone from 12-year-old in a small town to world-class entertainer."</p><p>Rejected by most record companies four years ago Bieber approached pop icons for help. "He had the talent," says Usher. "I thought, 'Man, I'd love to be a part of shaping what he is to become.'"</p><p>And that's when the hard work began. Bieber played every small venue across America to build an audience: water parks, shopping malls, street fairs, theme parks. No venue was too humiliating.</p><p>"He must have visited every radio station in the country to play a set," says Braun. Bieber played to bored shoppers, passing tourists, anyone who would listen. And his fan base grew. When his debut CD emerged in November 2009 it was an instant hit spawning singles One Time, One Less Lonely Girl, Favourite Girl and Love Me.</p><p>Yet such success was alien to the boy from a broken home and impoverished childhood. His mother, petite blue-eyed brunette Pattie Mallette, who left home at 15, admits: "I was messed up on drugs and alcohol. At 17 I went to hospital for trying to commit suicide."</p><p>She turned her life around only to become pregnant at 19 with Justin out of wedlock by martial arts fighter Jeremy Bieber, then 20. "They split up when I was a baby," says Bieber, who remains close to his father.</p><p>Raised by his mum in council housing in Stratford, Ontario, he recalls: "That place was really dirty. There were mice in the house. I didn't have a real bed. I slept on a blue pullout couch in my room. We didn't have anything in the fridge, ever, except maybe lunch meat for school and macaroni and cheese."</p><p>Mallette worked numerous odd jobs to make ends meet but after work friends came round and played instruments, exposing Bieber to music. At four he demonstrated an impressive sense of rhythm, tapping out beats on a kitchen chair, soon graduating to a drum kit. By 10 he had also mastered the guitar, piano and trumpet.</p><p>At 12 he started busking on street corners and at 13 earned $3,000 performing outside a local theatre. That year his proud mum posted online videos of him singing for relatives to view, little expecting that they would spark a global phenomenon.</p><p>"It wasn't something that my mum forced, it just kind of happened organically,"</p><p>he says. "I was never that kid who wanted to be famous. I just sang for fun.</p><p>"To be honest I never really wanted to be a singer. It kind of just happened, basically by fluke. I put those videos on YouTube for friends and family and it got a lot of views. Because of that I got a lot of managers trying to contact me."</p><p>Among them was Scooter Braun, who invited Bieber to Atlanta in 2007 in the hope of securing a recording deal. They spent six months posting new videos and building an online fan base that became a tidal wave that is still growing. "I ended up meeting Usher and he helped me basically to get signed to a record label," Bieber explains.</p><p>LA Reid, head of Bieber's record label Island Def Jam, says of the fans: "Justin sold them a dream and they are buying it hook, line and sinker. The girls just love him. They think he's their boyfriend, that there's a shot for them."</p><p>Worth an estimated £60million already Bieber cannot touch his fortune until he turns 18, though a bank card allows him to survive day-to-day, buying meals, flights to Los Angeles or renting a Ferrari. "I don't love money," he says, "because once you start loving money you've got a big house and nice car and just an empty heart."</p><p>Such views are coloured by his religious beliefs, which have also caused waves. In a recent interview he made plain his opposition to abortion and sex before marriage. This has much to do with his mother's infl uence. She became an evangelical Christian after conquering her drug addiction. "I feel I've an obligation to plant little seeds with my fans. I'm not going to tell them 'you need Jesus' but I will say at the end of my show, 'God loves you'." </p><p>In some ways he is a typical teenager: he is a video-game addict, plays music at deafening volume and sports braces across his teeth. But unlike most teens he drives a Range Rover, has a tour bus with two flat-screen TVs and swings a £100,000 crucifix of black diamonds from his neck.</p><p>His girlfriend is teen Disney TV star Selena Gomez and when in Los Angeles he stays at movie star Will Smith's home.</p><p>He is also still developing physically.</p><p>Bieber's voice belatedly started changing during his US tour last year and he no longer hits the high notes fans expect.</p><p>"He's got a nice tone to his voice now, a good texture but it doesn't sound like what his fans think he sounds like," admits his vocal coach Jan Smith. Bieber, 17 next month, is also painfully aware that pop history is littered with forgotten teen idols and his movie even features a brief cameo by Miley Cyrus, now 18 and struggling to maintain her grasp on fame.</p><p>Miley presents a cautionary tale for Bieber: a Disney princess packaged and promoted with her hit TV series Hannah Montana. Only two years ago she was starring in her own blockbuster 3-D concert movie but for the past year Disney has been searching for replacements after Miley obliterated her squeaky-clean image with a move-in boyfriend, five tattoos and stories of drug-taking.</p><p>Bieber immerses himself in yet more hard work to avoid that fate. He wants to star in a remake of Oliver Twist, is working on fourth album Believe and has numerous TV acting roles lined up.</p><p>Yet he knows that his future rests not just in his talent but also in the fickle favour of his fans. "My fans are powerful," he says. "It's all in their hands. If they don't buy my albums I go away."</p><p>And after all his hard work and undoubted talent that would be a shame.</p> </div>
