Justin Bieber gets best New artist nod from Sean Kingston

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards are coming, and stars are descending onto Los Angeles for the big party that is set to kick off this Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. at the Nokia Theatre. MTV News has had the privilege of hanging out with chart-topping 20-year-old singer Sean Kingston (he of the smashes like “Beautiful Girls,” “Fire Burning,” “Eenie Meenie” and the current hit “Letting Go (Dutty Love)” with Nicki Minaj) during his travels in and around Los Angeles. We followed him from New York to Los Angeles, hung out with him at a special pre-show on Thursday night (September 9) at the Hollywood Playhouse and chatted with him about all things VMA in between pieces of business.

“I always have great times as these awards shows, but MTV’s is always exciting,” Kingston said. “They always pull some trick out of the bag.”

When asked about his favorite VMA moment, he mentioned an event he got to witness first-hand. “My favorite VMA moment would have to be when Janet Jackson came out and did a tribute to her brother,” he revealed. “I was right there in the second row, and she killed it. It was really dope.”

Kingston talked about a lot of the categories, but he is mostly concerned with the horses in the race for one particular Moonman. “Best New Artist should go to Justin [Bieber]. He just headlined his first tour, and there’s a lot of great things going on for that kid,” Kingston said of his “Eenie Meenie” duet partner. “Either him or Nicki Minaj, but Justin has been working really hard.”

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 for Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12.
