But Justin Bieber was certainly able to give the former basketball star a run for his money at his own game.
The diminutive singer gave O’Neal the runaround on the basketball court as part of the sporting star’s reality TV show Shaq Vs.
The pair cut an unlikely duo as they competed in a series of challenges on the programme which sees O’Neal, 38, take on various celebrities in their sphere of excellence
Bieber’s teen team ‘beat’ O’Neal at basketball on the final shot with the score tied six-all.
‘Playing basketball on Shaq’s court was really cool. I had a lot of fun,’ said the 16-year-old following the mini match.
The pair also competed in a contest to see who could stay underwater the longest
And following the basketball match, O’Neal tried to get his own back on Bieber by holding a dance-off with him.
But Bieber’s smart moves seemed to outshine the gangly sports star, with the pint size Baby singer pretty pleased with the outcome.
‘Me and my man @the_real_shaq on “SHAQ vs” last night – EPIC DANCE BATTLE,’ he tweeted.
The show culminated with O’Neal joining Bieber on stage for a concert in Florida.
