Justin Bieber Named AMA finalist For ‘Favorite Breakthrough Artist’

Justin Bieber has already received four AMA nominations, and today it was announced he can add a fifth to his list. Dick Clark Productions, producer of the American Music Awards announced today thatJustin Bieber, Lady Antebellum, Travie McCoy and Mike Posner are the finalists in the Favorite Breakthrough Artist category. This is the only AMA category where fans can text their vote and continue to vote during the show. The winner of the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist will be revealed during the live telecast. Voting will conclude at approximately 9 p.m. ET during the show. The nominees were the top new artists based on sales and airplay from December 2009 through August 2010.

According to a press release dated 10/25/10, fans voted the last two weeks to determine the top four nominees who are now vying for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award. T-Mobile USA customers can text message using their phones by sending the letter corresponding to their favorite artist to short code “AMA” (262). Message & data rates may apply. In addition, all fans can cast their votes via the Internet at ama.abc.com. Corresponding letters to text for each artist are as follows:

  • A. Justin Bieber
  • B. Lady Antebellum
  • C. Travie McCoy
  • D. Mike Posner

This newly announced AMA nomination means that Justin Bieber now ties rapper Eminem for total noms. Both artists were nominated for a 2010 AMA Award in five categories. Bieber’s other four nominations are for Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, and Favorite Pop/Rock Album.

The 2010 American Music Awards (AMS) is set to air live on Sunday, November 21st at 8/7c on ABC. Last year’s AMA Awards were led by Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson. Swift took home five AMA’s, and Jackson four. Taylor Swift took home the biggest award of the night for Artist of the Year.
